Pale Honey provides 90′s new life – Aftonbladet

Riva rule books are overrated.

The best new music is often done by artists like reinventing the wheel.

As Pale Honey.

Everything goes in cycles, especially music. As I am on the Viktor Olsson -recensionen it’s more about to hear something with new ears, unconditionally, than to try to create something entirely new.

A little talking is I assumed that the Gothenburg duo Pale Honey takes its name from a song Popsicles full-length debut “Lacquer”. But in a TT-interview says drummer Nelly Daltrey that it is a band name “without any romantic story.”

– We Googled it and got a lot of hits on the wallpaper colors and beer . We like wallpaper. We like beer. We run!

I realize that Daltrey, singer and guitarist Tuva Lodmark is 22 years old and thus were not even born when the Popsicle released his Swedish indie pop classics, 1992.

Nonetheless is the time that pops up in the mind when listening to the duo’s excellent debut album “Pale Honey”. I hear the moods and sounds from Sonic Youth, Mazzy Star and PJ Harvey , but because Pale Honey does not drag around on an equal footing reference-ok from the time I, who was to get the old tried and true influences to re-let both fresh and exciting.

So, the Pope worked in recent decades. Today marked much of the best new of 90′s influences. Ten years ago interpreted the Franz Ferdinand and several others of the era tjugonåntings the early 80′s new wave of unspoiled, romantic eyes and new things happened.

There is also a lot other things like the Pale Honey. The classic White Stripes format guitars and drums are in many ways rock’s most coolest, not least, its inherent limitations a kind of guarantor of kärnfullhet. For it all to work, super strong melodies and that really brings out the innermost core of the songs.

Playing songs like “Over your head,” “Youth” or “Lonesome” and hear a band that has and just do it. It is exemplary minimalism.

Talking is also to Pale Honey before the week released her album had toured in Europe and generated a lot of international buzz, it feels today as soon obvious that something so This well reaches out directly.

I think it probably happened a so excellent bands like Popsicle too, if they only arrived today.
