The police can not solve crimes online – Aftonbladet

Only every 20th notification of threats, insults and persecution on the web cleared up by the police.

Now start a national IT center, when even murder plans moved on social media.

– Murder often have a clear IT relevance today, says Anders Ahlkvist, a specialist on cyber crime issues, to Swedish Radio.

The police must become better at solving crimes on the Internet. According to a good report from February this year was managed only four per cent of the reports on crimes such as threats, harassment, slander, a woman and persecution on the net during 2012.

In addition forges organized criminals and murderers of their nebulous plans social media and online forums.

– Murder often have a clear IT relevance today. It has started with a communication on a social medium. They have talked to each other and there has been no plan to murder someone then. But then something went wrong and so has this violent crime occurred. We have a number of murders, we have rapes and other things, and then, of course, this electronic track really important for us when it comes to finding the perpetrator, says Anders Ahlqvist, a specialist on cyber crime issues for the Swedish Radio.

Lack of resources

Aftonbladet has several articles noted that recruitment to the IS pursued actively on social media. But police have not kept up with the developments when it comes to investigating crimes. Even the security police talking about how they do not get into the Internet’s closed rooms.

Lack of both resources and knowledge in the IT field are contributing causes for the poor performance. Now-started a new national cybercrime center.

It will get started in the fall, and the building will, according to the police several years. 45 employees of the National Operational department’s IT section will be around 100th

Police officers must be trained

So far, investigators and investigators received training. But still lacks many police expertise in the IT area.

– We still need to raise the basic level of the Swedish police. We have far trained all. There is also ongoing work in which IT skills should be put into the basic training at police colleges and in all training courses should this be an element, since the IT and the Internet are one element in our life today at all levels and on all fronts, says Anders Ahlkvist.
