Several counties are making great gains on the medical report they commissioned. But the government is prepared to change the rules of the game.

Most of the county buys the investigations conducted to assess patients’ ability to work. With procurement squeezed prices, while the State compensates the county councils is fixed. The difference stays in the counties, because the state does not require anything back.

It is about millions of crowns in excess. Only in Region Skåne, which pushed prices up most, it moves about 14 million in just over a year, writes Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.

But the government is prepared to act, by lowering the state compensation to the investigations.

It is not reasonable to make a profit on the investigations. Joint resources to deck to the one they are assigned, says Minister for Social Annika Strandhäll (S) to SvD.

The state compensation is now 38,000 per inquiry. Region Skåne buy them for between 20 450 and 22 700 kronor each. Jamtland pay 21,000 crowns, Blekinge 22,700 crowns and Kalmar SEK 25 000.

Jönköping, Stockholm and Västerbotten are among those who investigate on its own.
