Sweden’s two largest railway contractors have sued the Swedish Transport Administration to court and demanded compensation of many millions. Robert Roeder is CEO rail contractor Strukton Rail.

– We had priced a train that looked one way, but when we started working, we saw that it was a completely different condition.

In August last year replaced Trafikverket Strukton Rail with 131 million in addition to the agreed konraktsumman maintenance done on the southern main line between 2007 and 2013. The settlement was noted that the Transport Administration had provided incorrect information about the track condition. Anna Lundman, maintenance manager at the Swedish Transport Administration:

– When we did the contract documents and went into this contract, we would not have described it so they could price it. And we realized was a miss on our part and we have taken responsibility for and replaced them now.

In addition to the false data mean Strukton Rail to the increased rail traffic also has meant more night work and increased staff costs. The availability of time to work in the tracks are a great source of conflict between Trafkverket and contractors.

For a week and a half ago also left the government Infranord a lawsuit for the additional costs they had on the North Main Line. They require 120 million extra from the Swedish Transport Administration. Neither Infranord or Trafikverket want to comment on the dispute.

To those here dispute goes to court is unusual and a sign that it is a poorly executed procurement, says procurement expert Pär Cronhult:

– Making a contract is similar to the laying of rails and do a carelessness from the start as it leads naturally to expensive repair costs. The better the surface is from the beginning, the less likely it is for subsequent discussions.

Traffic Authority tillfordnade Director General Torbjorn Suneson, do not agree with the criticism:

– The earlier you can make up in a good way, the better. But it must be clear to the contractors that we will not hesitate to go to court for fear of tax revenue. “
