Sweden was in 1985 first in the world to enact a law allowing children conceived through donation of sperm the right to know their origins at maturity. For over ten years ago turned the first children of 18 years, but so far has only between 15-20 children contacted the clinics.
– There’s very few given that it might have been born 50-75 children with donated gametes per year in Sweden, says Gunilla Sydsjö.
The study will start in the autumn and also the donors’ experiences should be utilized.
– Today, we know virtually nothing about this. Is it just that they want to know who the donor is, or would like to meet and continues in that case to meet? What are the consequences for others who might be affected, for example, if the donor has children?
That so few so far sought after data can be explained in that a large group does not know that they come to the sperm donation, according to Ms Sydsjö.
– It could also be that you have no interest. The thoughts of this can also occur later in life, when you yourself start a family.
