Former national police commissioner and chairman of the Swedish Sports Confederation, Björn Eriksson, suspect gambling mafia may be behind the gun threat against Swedish game’s President, Lennart Source.
The state company has profiled itself hard in the fight against match-fixing.
– He has shaken their plans, says Björn Eriksson.
Björn Eriksson’s former national police chief and chairman the Swedish Sports Confederation for a year.
During the day, he informed gunpoint against Lennart Source.
– They stopped his car, accusing him of things and has reportedly called him a large sum of money. Then they have usurped his wallet, credit cards and phone before they disappeared from there, says Björn Eriksson.
What was it that these people targeted for accusations against Lennart Source?
– My guess is that it reasonably has to do with that he has upset their plans. And then it is about the Swedish game and the entire industry works – and it does not rhyme with matchfixning.
Both in his current role at the Swedish Sports Confederation and in the past that national police chief has Eriksson had reason to follow organized crime in sport.
Swedish accordion fighting game Mafia
in the autumn of 2013 declared Swedish games and the Swedish sports Confederation that there would be a new shift in the fight against match-fixing and what has been described as gambling mafia. The organized criminal element that corrupts sport.
– The fight against manipulation of sports results and match-fixing is a high priority for us, said Lennart Source to the sport business.
But while Bjorn Eriksson suspect that the motive for gunpoint has matchfixning to do, he thinks that the time is ill.
– It’s stupid from the standpoint: what do they achieve by threatening Lennart Source? He can not stop the valuation of unusual betting patterns or how UEFA act. You can lock Lennart Source on a deserted island in the Atlantic Ocean and throw away the key – but the control would still continue. So it is a rare ineffective action, says Björn Eriksson.
“Organized crime has penetrated into the sport ‘
Should not it have been a known threat against Lennart Source , the criminal really be able to reach him in this way in the vicinity of his home?
– When organized crime is spreading, many people may be exposed to threats and it can not protect all individuals. Take all the leaders of major Swedish companies, if we say that they are 100 and should have bodyguard protection, so it would require 300 policemen just to protect them.
How big is the problem of matchfixning?
– There is huge. It is simply that organized crime has penetrated into the sport and it is difficult to defend ourselves against it if we do not see this threat at the highest level.
The Swedish Sports Confederation and the Swedish game works closely the games cheat.
– There is a working group with the Swedish game and UEFA which we work a lot with finding irregular betting patterns and mark on sales if there is something going on, and then stop playing.
Source: “We must stand up for Swedish sports’
you are also a figure in the fight against match-fixing – how worried are you to run into something similar to that suffered by Lennart Cold?
– There is such a question I do not answer, since I was national police chief.
Since the Swedish gaming intensified fight against matchfixning they stopped the game at many matches . Expressen said in October 2014 Swedish accordion front line against suspected gambling cheats: the so-called “bridge” where the odds are examined in detail in order to detect abnormal patterns.
– It is very important that no player folds of the criminal, we must stand up for Swedish sport, said Lennart Source then.
as late as September stopped the Swedish game play on several football matches, police reported a number of these, including a Division 1 match between Forward and Vasalund, TT reported.
at present, the police have not wanted to say anything about the motive for the attack on Lennart Source.
