50 barrels containing hazardous oil has been dumped in the österdal river in the Lake. Around 2 000 litres of oil estimated to have leaked into the river and the dumping has been reported to the police of the municipality in order to investigate a possible environmental crime.
During a älvstädningskampanj in August last year found several oljetunnor dumped in the österdal river. At first it was thought that it was a 15-odd barrels, but now it has been shown that there are about another 40 pieces. Along included they dumped the barrels around 8000 litres of environmentally hazardous oil, of which about 2 000 litres suspected to have leaked into the river.
” We hope that they do not contain so many other chemicals, we don’t really know than, say samhällsutvecklingschefen at the Leksand municipality, Åke Sjöberg
How dangerous can one say that the oil is that?
– It is not jättetoxiskt, is not acutely toxic. But the oil is definitely not something you want in the water. It can affect the fish and vegetation in the river. We have of course notified this to the police to investigate possible offences, if it is barred or pending.
the Salvage operation has so far cost the municipality 800 000 sek, and is expected to become even more expensive. Anyone responsible for the dumping have not been found.
