New app will help patients with bowel disease – Sveriges Radio

Today leaves patients in their stool samples to the laboratory and test results come first five-seven days later. With the new app, patients can take their own samples at home and get responses significantly faster.

– The fourth roughly have an answer in its smartphone – but even here the reception we get the same test results. Thus, simplicity, speed, and ability to do so at any time, says Anders Nicklasson, gastrointestinal specialist at SAS.

– A little like diabetes patients control their blood sugar at home, you can control the inflammatory activity in the gut in this way.

There are patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis as an easy way to use the app at home along with a sampling equipment: The dissolving a stool sample, drops a few drops on a test tray, and then a ribbon. The app will then, through the phone’s camera, a picture of the ribbon which is then sent for analysis. Shortly after the test results.

What patients may need this app?

– It certainly will not be applied properly in all patients but maybe patients with much fuss, the very symptoms from their disease, where we want close monitoring to guide treatment.

Can app lead to patients feeling better?

– With regular sampling can be adjusted treatment so that it is as optimal as possible, so there is a possibility.

Anders Lasson hope that the new app will be operational within a year.
