Fewer street children in Gothenburg than expected – Göteborgs-Posten

Street children in central Gothenburg are less than the social authorities feared. But the problem is widespread. It shows a survey that was presented on Wednesday.

Since the autumn of 2015, the police and field workers in Gothenburg seen an increase in young guys who live as street children. It is mainly about boys who single-handedly made it from North Africa via Europe to Sweden.

According to previous information will around 200 street children find themselves in the Gothenburg area, but the number is uncertain. It was revealed at a press conference with the police and social resource management yesterday. The social authorities have encountered some 40 in the city of Gothenburg since last September. The police are talking about more than a hundred in and around Gothenburg.

Erik Nord, head of the police in Greater Gothenburg, says it is important not to confuse this group with other unaccompanied.

– these boys have often been living as street children all her life and has no plan to come here – they have no plan at all. They live adrift and are easily drawn into crime.

Both the social authorities and the police feel that it has been somewhat calmer in recent times. Then they think first and foremost on the North Town.

Marie Larsson from social resource management has resulted in the mapping of the social services.

– We thought it would be more, but at the same time, we see a very wide problems that require cooperation between authorities and with other municipalities.

We also need more efforts directly aimed at street children, she says. Although there is an ongoing cooperation between Morocco and Sweden, it is difficult for the children to return. They often have nothing to return to, and there are no places that are suitable for them.

The municipal field workers for two weeks in January interviewed 76 adolescents who moves in North Town in the evening. Nine of them had nowhere to live and did not know where they would sleep from one day to the other.

“The friends will be a kind of family and important to be able to survive in a harsh environment. Several young people have been placed in smaller communities far away from the little network you have and to hold up often to friends. Our opinion is that the risk is also great that differ if you have an ongoing abuse which makes it difficult to function in a regular asylum accommodation. “

some have not given any indication they applied for asylum or not. They rejected or are awaiting a decision are worried about what will happen. “I will be killed if I return to Morocco,” said one of them.

According to the survey, all nine who live in the street drug problems and mental illness. They commit crimes in order to survive.

As a GP earlier told city police have increased their presence in North Town. They also want to limit the opening hours so that the mall closes at 22 instead of 02. The Moderates, Liberals and Christian Democrats are on the same line and has submitted a proposal to the zoning should be changed to an earlier closing is possible to be implemented.

But the proposal was voted down in the Building of the rödgrönrosa majority. They would rather see broad cooperation between administrations, police, landlords and NGOs.

– We need to do something on a broad front and in the first instance to see if we can increase security as more involved in common, says Marina Johansson (S), Chairman of the social resource committee.
