Hunters Association in Norrbotten has appealed the decision and, according to Lena Bondestad press also reindeer owners in the greater hunting.
– The problem we have with bear up here is that they take quite a lot of reindeer. That is why we have had a pretty big launching, she said.
In the 70s there were just barely 500 bears in Sweden. Since then, the number has risen sharply, reaching a peak of over 3 000 bears in 2008 – and then decrease by about a hundred animals a year.
– Nationally, the bear population is not a problem, although there has been a slight decrease it is still a strong strain, says Martin Johansson, wildlife officer at the Environmental Protection Agency.
Altogether, the Environmental Protection Agency received seven appeals from mainly hunting associations, but also beekeepers and landowners, who think that more bears will get suspended.
