Children was shot
Stockholm police’s own compilation for the county show higher numbers than the TT-27 shootings from May to today. So far this year there have been 70 confirmed shootings compared with 88 throughout 2014, and 90 in 2013. In May was shot accidentally a seven-year boy on the outside of the knee at a major brawl in Husby center and a 56 year old man was hit in the mouth.
– They just happened to be at the site, says Mats Eriksson.
Although the child was hit by a shot and despite the 56-year-old could die or be severely handicapped if the bullet taken a little different was the media reporting modest. Perhaps helped police information not saying more than that the two had hospital for “minor injuries”.
– Minor damage to us means someone is not life-threatening damage. Perhaps we should have put us different, says Mats Eriksson.
Spread across the country
As before, during the review the period has been repeated shootings in Örebro and Eskilstuna. When one of shootings in Örebro killed a 21 year old. The same day, shot a 20 year old in Skåne, Arlöv death. Across the country, several people – mostly young men – shot in the legs.
– Shootings occur more often nowadays where there are people overall – in parks, streets and squares. And they no longer happens only at nights but at times when many people are on the move, says Lars Öjelind, head of the intelligence section of the NOA, former National Police. The risks increase and several outsiders than in Husby has been damaged – for example, four year old who was killed in a car explosion in Torslanda in Göteborg.
clampdown inadequate
Lars Öjelind trying to provide an explanation of the extent of the violence.
– It has become easier to get hold of illegal weapons, and they will not disappear from circulation when they have been used. But there has also been a change in attitude among the young where they are not afraid to use weapons and might not even be afraid of being caught, he said.
Lagskärpningar has been and Öjelind like to have seen how the courts have begun to impose a longer sentence.
– What is left is the introduction of a preparatory offense, it would be illegal also, for example, order a weapons.
But violence can will not be tackled solely by police initiatives, tougher laws and longer sentences.
– People must dare report crime and exclusion must be broken, says Öjelind.
