College student gets sharp criticism of drug testing – Swedish Radio

Schools Inspectorate directed harsh criticism against the drug testing Njudungsgymnasiet in Vetlanda use on their high school students.

Among other notes Schools Inspectorate that forced drug testing violates students’ privacy, and that it violates the Education Act and the Government if and when the headmaster decides that a particular student should drug tested. It may only be a school doctor or school nurse decide on.

Schools Inspectorate requires in its decision that Njudungsgymnasiet ensures that only authorized personnel must decide whether drug tests and that the tests should be voluntary, and students are not penalized or suspended from school if they refuse undergo the test.

In the spring, several students have been expelled from school after they refused to provide a urine sample.

Njudungsgymnasiet to have presented its response by early November.
