Christian Democrat and lawyer Peter Althin write in SvD Focal point that he feels betrayed and deceived by the Party and therefore leaves KD after nearly 20 years as a member. He believes that the party under new leader Ebba Busch Thor’s leadership is more right than any other parliamentary parties. As an example, he cites tougher penalties and a “fuzzy” abortion policy.
Ebba Busch Thor has chosen not to comment on the defection. Press Secretary Marlene W Antonsson says instead that the party think it is sad that Peter Althin leave the party.
– But he of reasons given do not match. Ebba Busch Thor has no new ideas about legal policy and abortion rights than the party had before she took over as party leader, says Marlene W Antonsson.
KD’s former party leader Alf Svensson think that the defection is “very dull and tedious”.
– I expect Peter Althin as a very good friend, full of wisdom. He would have taken the match against the party leadership instead of jumping off. Ebba Busch Thor is completely new in the mail. One should not criticize the apple tree until you see what it gives fruit, he said.
After Peter Althin last threat of defection took Alf Svensson, the conversations with him over the phone.
– I asked him not hasty, we would meet and talk further about this in the summer.
Alf Svensson does not want to answer the question whether he also think that KD had gone too far to the right.
– There are just too sensitive for me to answer. I do not want to interfere in the grandstand. But one of KD’s key tasks party is to make the weak, the marginalized and outcasts. To show a strong social commitment. I hope Ebba Busch Thor will do it, he says.
