Roma are skeptical of the national police chief excuse – Swedish Radio

Sweden’s new national police chief Dan Elisha son is now asking apology for the police’s illegal registration of Roma. He acknowledges that the police were wrong when they recorded up to 5000 flavorings which around 1 000 children. But the Roma Information and Knowledge in the City of Malmö is one bit skeptical about the excuse.

– What will this provide for the effect, what we want to achieve, and what he asks for excuse we wonder, says Marian Wydow, project manager at Roma information and knowledge.

He says that the police have done wrong, what do you think about this, now?

– As long as they are not primarily what the police concretely done wrong, the question remains about what he apologize for.

– I think it’s good that he does, . It is a little late but better late than never as they say. But one must clarify what you mean by this excuse and who it is addressed, says Mujo Halilovic, Director of Roma information and knowledge.

How is romregistret affected you?

– This case is what affected us most negatively. Now it’s about building trust.

– The process is still running. Civil Rights Defenders want to try eleven cases where you want to try it ethnic in this case. What is interesting now is how Roma will accept this apology, says Marian Wydow.

How do you think it will be received?

– It will take time before our social structure signals of equal value. That the laws will apply all of us.

What is required to excuse better be able to be received?

– One thing is that this must be put in a historical context for Roma have been the victims of persecution, marginalization and discrimination throughout his stay in Sweden. After World War II there is no group that has become more discriminated against by authorities, says Mujo Halilovic.
