Poor job conditions for taxi drivers – Göteborgs-Posten

Session of 12-13 hours. Six to seven day work week. Low wages.

The terms of the taxi industry in Gothenburg, Malmö and Stockholm are often miserable, according to a survey echo done.

– This is an industry in the case, said Marcus Pettersson, Assistant National Secretary of the Transport Unions, the Echo on Swedish Radio.

The news program interviewed 100 taxi drivers about their conditions. Half of them say they work twelve hours or more per session. Thirteen of the drivers are working every day of the year, which is illegal.

The salaries are in most cases the commission-based, and the ten who earn at least have a salary of less than 54 kronor per hour before tax. The very minimum hourly wage is only average 27 crowns.

Nine of those earning at least engaged for transport services and patient transport, ie travel which is partly financed by taxpayers.

– We have 3000 drivers, saying that not everyone can be satisfied. But there are certainly those who are also satisfied too, he says.

Transports Mikael Pettersson considers that the conditions are even indecent.

– This is a labor market that has absolute worst and poor working conditions.
