When a child has it bad at home, it is the municipality’s responsibility to try to protect and help the child. But the 8-year-old girl Yara never got any help. Instead, she was murdered by her relatives. A group called IVO have now investigated this. Those on the IVO is very critical of Karlskrona.

The 8-year-old girl Yara came from the territory of Gaza in the Middle East. It is an unsettled area where it is often war. Yara’s parents sent her to Karlskrona in southern Sweden. Where did she live with her uncle and his wife.
But there is no safe place for Yara. She received too little food, and she was often beaten at home. She was eventually murdered by the woman in the family.
Paper forgotten
Staff at Karlskrona Municipality were repeatedly told that Yara maybe had a hard time at home. Among other things, told neighbors and teachers that they were worried about the girl.
There was a paper written about how Yara had it. But there was no one who read the paper, instead it was a pigeon holes and forgotten.
There were also papers that health professionals had written about Yara, where they were worried that she grew so slowly. But also the papers were gone for a long time.
Harsh criticism
A group named “Agency for Health Care”, IVO, has examined how the municipality did its job. Those on the IVO is very critical.
The head of Karlskrona Municipality is responsible Annette Gladher. She says that the municipality has already changed the way they work:
– The criticism that has come today is serious. We soon realized the seriousness of this criticism and also made steps to remedy the problems.
