Nut allergy was told to eat nuts – Expressen

Nut allergy was told to eat nuts – Expressen

Josefine Nielsen, 20, sought help, inter alia, nut allergies, an alternative medical facility in Dubai – where she was asked to go home and eat nuts.

Now directs Agency for Health Care criticism of the nurse who runs the clinic.

– Extremely strange that a registered nurse could say so, given what she knew about me, says Josefine.

Josefine Nielsen from Nödinge has suffered from severe allergies, against including nuts, since birth. In a desperate attempt to get better so she sought out an alternative medical facility in Gothenburg.

“Felt weird”

But after a number of visits chose Josefine to finish their treatment at the clinic. One of the reasons: She had been asked to go home and try to eat nuts.

– I thought it was extremely strange that a registered nurse could say so, given what she knew about me.

Josefine questioned whether it was really a good idea at testing the nuts.

– It takes not much allergens that there is to be serious – and she said that it was entirely on my own responsibility for something would happen. It made me feel that this was not credible, she said.

“been warned”

It is Josefines parents who have notified the treatment of IVO. They write like this if the nurse’s call to eat nuts at home:

– This we think is jeopardizing patient safety. We have previously from allergy in healthcare been warned that the experiment with especially nuts, then it should be supervised by a health professional if she would experience an anaphylactic shock.

The woman who runs the current reception has a qualification as nurse and is therefore under the supervision of the IVO even though she now runs an alternative medical facility.

In an email exchange with Josefine accusing the nurse Josefine to have been overly skeptical reading.

“Silly to persuade you”

– I have now learned to never work with people who constantly doubt and skepticism. So it was just stupid to persuade you to continue, writes nurse and continues:

– Your instructions were to try the steps, in order to cancel if you got a reaction. My experience is that if followed, there is no need for medical care for one stops after all if it gets reaction. The fear there again.

In its opinion to the IVO emphasizes the nurse to Josefine actually achieved good results as to withstand eggs and latex – and that no patient is forced to test the substances they can not tolerate, but will always be asked if they want to test after a series of treatments.

Battles against the Patient Safety Act

Now criticizes IVO nurse for her actions. Under the decision, the nurse “exposed person is at risk when she called a nut allergy on their own to try nuts. Allergy to nuts is a common allergy that is known to cause severe allergic reactions, in some cases very small doses of the allergen . “

IVO beats therefore concluded that the nurse’s action violates the Patient Safety Act and is inappropriate having regard to patient safety.
