Stop licensed hunting of wolves – Swedish Radio

Stop licensed hunting of wolves – Swedish Radio

The Administrative Court in Karlstad has today decided that the county administrative boards in Värmland and Örebro County decision on the license hunting for wolves until further notice can not be enforced.

This means that licensed hunting is currently not commence as planned tomorrow, writes Courts Administration in a press release.

The decisions on license hunting was taken by the prefectures, according to the rules of the hunting regulation, which means that the decision only could be appealed to the Environmental Protection Agency – which rejected an appeal by the Association Nordulv.

Nordulv in turn has appealed the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to the Administrative Court, which then stopped the licensed hunting until further notice. This is because it is doubtful whether hunting regulation appeal ban is compatible with EU law.

Later, the Administrative Court to decide whether the county administrative boards decision should be changed or not, and also to decide whether a ruling from the European Court of Justice should be requested or not.

The Administrative Court’s decision may be appealed to the Appeal in Gothenburg.
