The turmoil in Svartlöga grows after Sunday’s fire as a vacation home burned to the ground. Fixed telephony has not worked since the beginning of December.

– Telia’s behavior is completely unacceptable, a pure security risk. We can not even dial 112, says Kajsa Althén, chairman of Svartlögaföreningen.

On December 5 unearthed a submarine cable of the Bromskär and residents on both Rödlöga and Svartlöga outside Norrtälje has since been without a fixed line. Svartlöga has no mobile coverage and the residents have made several requests for Telia to arrange the marriage before the Christmas and New Year holidays.

– We are completely dependent of the fixed phone. It is incredibly serious that Telia compromising safety. Nothing has happened despite the fact that it is relatively easy to fix. Latest news was that the phones would work no earlier than January 9, says Kajsa Althén.

During the Christmas and New Year spent fifteen families on the island and at lunchtime on Sunday where the accident occurs. A vacation home burned to the ground in an explosive fire probably caused by a leaking gas line. A woman burns sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital by helicopter. The rescue took the Coast Guard to help during the fighting but the house was completely burned and could not be saved.

The accommodation Svartlöga is now very worried about not being able to alert the emergency services. During Sunday’s fire managed a neighbor miraculously get the cell phone to function and reached the 112th

– Many of us are worried and very critical of Telia’s nonchalant reaction concerning such a central security issue as to raise the alarm. It is completely contrary to the guidelines of the National Post and Telecom Agency, says Kajsa Althén.

Telia regret what happened and says that it tried to mend the submarine cable that has made their telephone exchange has been without power for an entire month.

– We think it’s really sad and really regret the concern and the inconvenience it has caused our customers. We have worked hard to try to repair since mid-December. Our forecast is that it will be resolved to January 9, says Björn Berg, CIO at Telia.

Is it reasonable that customers can not dial 112 in over a month?

– We are aware that this has taken far too long, it’s about the weather as well as we need down with divers in the lake. If we fail to fix the cable to the ninth so we have to somehow force support this telestation themselves. We have also submitted an incident report to the National Post and Telecom Agency.

How do you compensate them?

– We encourage our customers to contact us whenever dissolved. The maximum amount of compensation is SEK 800 per service, but in this case, we can imagine that even compensate for quarterly fee, says Björn Berg.
