When a 37 year old man sought treatment for sudden palpitations and headaches, he was told that he had panic disorder. Four months later, the man was forced to undergo emergency surgery due to a brain tumor. Now the health center in Södra Sandby criticism of the Inspectorate of Health Care (Ivo) for not having launched an investigation, reports Sydsvenskan.
The man was examined in 2013, initially by psychiatric emergency department in Lund, which referred him on to the medical center with suggestions for further sampling. Some samples were never taken. In contrast, the patient received CBT treatment for panic disorder. When it did not work, he was diagnosed with depression. A few days later showed a CT scan in the emergency room that the man had a serious brain tumor.
The health center will also criticized for not having referred the patient, who suffered from severe headaches and confusion, to the emergency room.
