Kent Persson: Because I stop with politics – Aftonbladet

Kent Persson: Because I stop with politics – Aftonbladet

Yet another peak moderate disappear from the political scene.

In an exclusive interview with Aftonbladet reveals party secretary Kent Persson he leaves his position at the Extraordinary General Meeting on 10 January.

– I think it’s fair that I now completely ends with politics, he said.

After the election defeat last fall, there have been major changes within the Moderate Party. Already on election night announced Fredrik Reinfeldt that he would leave the party leadership. After that, a series of famous M-profiles announced that they leave the party politics.

Now, a whole new bunch about to take over the M peak for the extraordinary elections next year. On January 10, elected Anna Kinberg Batra to the new party leader, and right now she keeps on shaping their team.

Should find another job

The team includes not current party secretary Kent Persson. In an exclusive interview for Aftonbladet he says that he will leave his post at the Extraordinary General Meeting. Persson succeeded Sofia Arkelsten 2012 and has led the party organization during a heavy period that culminated with two electoral defeat in 2014.

– For me, it is reasonable to leave and to ensure that the new party leadership must create his new team. I have taken the decision that it is enough now. I’ve been around long, so I look forward to leave partisan politics entirely in the spring, says Kent Persson.

What should you do instead?

– I will remain in the organization until about additional choice, to help with the organization of the elections and take care of the transition that we are in. Then I will use the spring to seek me out of politics and try to find another job within organizational development or advocacy.

‘An organization in balance’

What’s it like here?

– I have had great fun years on the record, both instructive and tough. I have had a nice time in the party and got to finish by becoming party secretary during a government session. It is a rare luxury.

What are you most pleased with in those three years?

– The restructuring I made of the party’s organization and finances means that I hand over an organization

in balance. The party is now heavily financially which means that we are prepared to quickly go to optional. I am also pleased that we have developed the party’s campaign activities, we are now open and go out and talk to people. I hope it is fixed and the next time you can develop it and make it even more quality.

“For the sprawling message”

Do you have any reason to be self-critical?

– The thing that stands out is the EU elections. The election campaign was not as good as I wanted and our results were really bad.

What went wrong?

– We had too many and too sprawling message and was a little tone-deaf. The election campaign was about certain issues while we stood a little convulsively next door and struggled to get it to be about very many other issues.

You also backed heavily in parliamentary elections. But you are satisfied with the election campaign?

– We went down to fewer messages, which were absolutely necessary. We saw an opinion-curve rose slightly and we felt there was energy. In contrast, it was not enough all the way. We were not the election campaign to focus on our priorities for government effectiveness, economy and jobs.

When did you realize you were going to lose power?

– After the blast in the European elections, we had a real uphill struggle. Although we approached the election campaign so we lay down with so much that I am at heart a few weeks before the election drew the rational conclusion that we would not win. While I would get the entire organization to believe in victory, to the very end, I chose where to start preparation for our conversion work that would be needed after a loss.

Who will be your successor as party secretary?

– There will be up to the new party leader to select it.

You have sometimes been severely criticized internally in the party.

– It is a part of the political process. Are you party secretary of a party with 40,000 members in a position where it goes a little adversity, it is so clear that it bubbles out to you.

When Fredrik Reinfeldt announced his resignation on election night he thanked especially you and Anders Borg. How did it feel?

– It was touching, we’ve had a very good cooperation and had daily contact. I think we stood close together. Frederick is an amazing leader, in the everyday work of long days there was always proximity to laugh. You can always talk football or hockey, extra fun so clearly when my Örebro hitting his Djurgården.
